If You're Stuck...

Sandip Wadje

Attention: Job seekers in any market Are you a recent graduate or post-graduate student looking for an internship, work experience, or job + visa sponsorship? Have you been made redundant? I receive a lot of CVs every week of candidates looking for a job. I try my best to mentor as many of them as possible. I wish I had a magic trick for everyone to find their dream job. However, I can share some guidance based on my experience as a mentor: 1. Build your LinkedIn profile: Do it yourself or hire a professional but make sure that you have the best LinkedIn profile. 2. Make some noise: Write an article, share recent trends with the community, demonstrate that you have a passion for the topic 3. Network: Get out, attend every free event in town, meet people. Meet as many as possible- it will change your life and perspective. And add all of them on LinkedIn 😊 4. Fix your CV: Think out of the box, be creative, take every rejection as an opportunity to re-write your CV again until the acceptance ratio goes up 5. Be flexible: Examine every opportunity with the same passion. There is no perfect job and there is no perfect boss. As long as you are going to learn something new that takes you in the right direction, go for it. 6. Change the field: Maybe it's time to move on from being a developer to a hacker, marketing to sales, sales to product manager. It's never too late to go for something new. 7. Drop your baggage: Life is not fair. Any person (even the most powerful CEO) you meet will tell you that they are not where they should be in life. Learn from your mistakes, don't expect that the world owes you something because life has been unfair to you. 8. Displace yourself: If I wanted a safe job near my hometown, I would have never left India and traveled the world. 9. Invest in soft skills: Identify your weak spots early in the career and work on them e.g. persuasion or people management. 10. Approach people directly and ask for help: Yes, rejection hurts. But you just need that one door to open for you. I know how it feels to have a mortgage and a family to support. Just push harder and help yourself first before the community can help you.
