Timings of Visit: Around 8:00 A.M to 1:30 P.M
In a burst of early morning enthusiasm, our institute, NSBT, embarked on an industrial adventure to Bajaj Auto Ltd. in Waluj, Aurangabad. The goal? To let students dive headfirst into the riveting world of automobile manufacturing, making textbooks come alive with the hum of engines and the smell of innovation.
Bajaj Auto Limited, an Indian automotive powerhouse, unfolded its story before us. Established by the visionary Jamnalal Bajaj, now steered by the dynamic Niraj Bajaj, the company has etched itself as India's No.1 motorcycle exporter, capturing the hearts of 79 countries worldwide. Nestled in the lush landscapes of Akurdi, Pune, Bajaj boasts three vibrant branches across the country - Chakan, Pune; Pant Nagar, Delhi; and the very canvas of our exploration, Waluj, Aurangabad.
"The World's Favourite Indian" - Bajaj's tagline is not just a catchphrase; it's a testament to the ceaseless effort poured into eliminating losses and continuous improvement. The plant we visited sprawls across 362 hectares, a beacon of excellence since 1984. This particular hub is renowned for manufacturing commercial vehicles, with a campus enveloped in 75% greenery, a living testament to Bajaj's commitment to sustainability.
The heart of Bajaj's success lies in its unique production methodologies. Boasting not just the eight pillars of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) but also an exclusive ninth pillar - Vendor Improvement, Bajaj's approach to manufacturing mirrors its commitment to innovation. Much like Toyota's Production System (TPS), Bajaj boasts its own marvel, the Bajaj Production System (BPS).
Two-Wheeler Production: A symphony of efficiency, Bajaj crafts a fully assembled bike every 24 seconds. Picture a mesmerizing conveyor belt where each employee choreographs a dance with different parts of the bike. With a storage capacity of 7000 bikes, they unleash a range of models - Pulsar, Avenger, Platina, and more.
Three-Wheeler Production: The rhythm continues, producing a fully assembled auto-rickshaw every 43 seconds. Conveyor belts painted in various hues, catering to the diverse preferences and demands of locations and dealers alike. Models like Electric Auto, Maxima Z, Maxima X Wide, Maxima C, Qute, come to life, showcasing the diversity of Bajaj's offerings.
Beyond the machines and production lines, Bajaj Auto champions Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), embracing causes such as education, health, rural development, natural heritage, and environmental sustainability.
In conclusion, the visit transcended the mundane, offering a profound education in the artistry of manufacturing. Our gratitude extends to the NSBT management for orchestrating this insightful experience, and a heartfelt thank you to the Bajaj Auto team for graciously hosting our journey into the heart of innovation.
