In today’s digital age, cyber security has become a critical concern for everyone. To address this, NSBT organised a 2 day workshop called “CYBER SHIELD”, held on ‘8th and 9th April 2025’.
The workshop was designed to educate police officers about cyber hygiene, cybercrime investigation, and the latest trends in digital safety. It was an eye-opening experience, and I’m excited to share what I learned.
Day 1: Cyber Hygiene & Cyber Posture
The first day of the workshop focused on the basics of cyber security and how individuals can protect themselves online.
The day started with a formal opening ceremony. The guests were welcomed, and the lamp was lit to mark the beginning of the event. It settled a positive tone for the rest of the day.
Session 1: Understanding Cybercrime Landscape
The first session was conducted by Mr. Amit Dube, who spoke about the types of cybercrimes and shared real-life case studies. He explained how cybercriminals operate and the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies. Prof. Amol Warad also shared his experiences in enforcing cybercrime laws.
One of the most interesting parts of this session was the discussion on new technologies like - Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Quantum Computing. Mr. Dube explained how these technologies can be used by the police department to fight cybercrime more effectively.
After a busy morning, we took a break for lunch. This was a great opportunity to network with other participants and discuss what we had learned so far.
Session 2: Cyber Hygiene Essentials
This session, conducted by Prof. Amol Warad, focused on the basics of cyber hygiene. He explained how to protect ourselves online by using strong passwords, avoiding phishing attacks, and securing our devices. Various important topics covered included IP addresses and how they work, the use of VPNs and virtual numbers for online safety, best practices for safe browsing and social media settings.
The session also included an interactive phishing attack demo and a quiz to test our knowledge. It was fun and engaging, and we learned a lot about how to stay safe online.
Then it was my turn to present on “Secured settings of Instagram”. It was a wonderful experience for me where I actually had no stage fear.
Session 3: Fraud Awareness
Mr. Vijayant Gaur delivered an insightful session on fraud awareness. He explained the different types of online fraud, including UPI fraud, banking fraud, task fraud etc.
He shared real-life examples of how people fall victim to these scams and provided tips on how to avoid them. The session was very informative and left us all more cautious about online transactions.
Day 2: Advanced Cybercrime Investigation & Practical Demonstration
The second day of the workshop focused on advanced topics related to cybercrime investigation and practical tools for digital safety.
Session 4: Cybercrime Investigation Techniques
This session discussed advanced techniques for investigating cybercrime, including Identifying cybercriminals, gathering digital evidence and using forensic tools. The session included a hands-on exercise where participants could try out some of the tools and techniques discussed.
Session 5: Data Security & DPD Act
Mr. Vijayant Gaur conducted this session, which focused on data security and the “DPD (Digital Personal Data) Act”. He explained the importance of protecting personal data and how the law ensures data privacy.
Session 6: OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence)
Prof. Amol Warad conducted this session on OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence). He explained how criminals use the dark web and how OSINT tools can be used to gather information from public sources. This session was fascinating, as it showed how much information is available online and how it can be used for both good and bad purposes.
Session 7: Blockchain and Crypto currency
The final session of the workshop was on Blockchain and Cryptocurrency. Mr. Deepak Patel explained how blockchain technology works and how it is used in cybercrime investigations. He also demonstrated how to analyze seized devices and recover deleted files.
Closing Ceremony
The workshop ended with a closing ceremony. Certificates were distributed to all participants, and prizes were awarded for the quizzes and interactive sessions held during the event. The organizers thanked everyone for their participation and encouraged us to share what we had learned with others.
A skit was performed by a group of participants. The skit highlighted common cybercrime scenarios, such as phishing attacks and online fraud. It was both entertaining and educational, reminding us of the importance of being vigilant online.
What I Learned from CYBER SHIELD
Attending the CYBER SHIELD workshop was a valuable experience. Over the two days, I gained a deeper understanding of cyber security and learned practical tips to protect myself online. Some key takeaways include:
1. Cyber hygiene is essential: Simple practices like using strong passwords and being cautious of phishing attacks can go a long way in keeping us safe online.
2. Stay updated on new technologies: Technologies like AI and blockchain are transforming the way cybercrime is fought. Staying informed about these advancements is crucial.
3. Be vigilant about online fraud: Fraudsters are constantly coming up with new ways to trick people. Awareness and caution are our best defenses.
I also realized how important it is for law enforcement agencies and citizens to work together to combat cybercrime. The interactive sessions, quizzes, and skits made the learning process fun and engaging.
In conclusion, the CYBER SHIELD workshop was a fantastic initiative to educate people about cyber security and digital safety. It was a mix of informative sessions, practical demonstrations, and interactive activities that kept everyone engaged. I left the workshop feeling more confident about protecting myself online and hopeful that others would take cyber security as seriously as I now do.
If you ever get the chance to attend a similar workshop, I highly recommend it. Learning about cyber security is not just a skill—it’s a necessity in today’s digital world.
